EDUC 675 Teaching with 21 Century Tools - Summer 2015
During this course, I traveled through the world of technology to search for tools that can create a stimulating learning environment for my classroom. Through my travels, I have been lost and overwhelmed but in the end found some amazing tools that I will be able to use.
Check out the drop-down menu under EDUC675 for the learning tools learned within the five modules of this course. The 21 Teacher Tools tab will take you to a page full of examples and information about some fantastic tools that may be helpful to you or your students in your classroom.
My learning is on-going with this technology so check back to see what else I have found and developed!
Thank you for visiting my site. I hope that you can find something that will be useful for you and benefit your students' education!

Kahoot! is an excellent resource that I plan to use as check on learning, review, or even as pre-assessment before covering information. This site allows the user to create a game that can be played by multiple players and connected via the internet and answers are collected from each player and logged. This allows the teacher to collect and analyze students knowledge, understanding, or even misconceptions about topics presented. It is also fun and competitive to add variety to lessons that may tend to get dry and boring.
The site is free to use. This makes it an even better tool for teachers. It does take a bit of time to create a quiz game but well worth it. I also found many games already created and shared among the users. They quizzes and games are organized and can be searched easily to find one that fits your needs.
This tool could be used to generate a pre-assessment to gather information about the students' current knowledge. It can also be used as a review game to add variety to the classroom. I would prefer to use it in bits or short quizzes over small sections of information covered.
A screenshot of a quiz I created is shown below. I would use this quiz as a check on learning and as a review. My lesson for the properties is taught by a hands on activity using stations. At each station is information on the property presented and a hands on activity to do with the property. For example, station 1 would be massing an object. This is a physical property because it can be measured and changing the mass does not change the substance. The students then mass an object and then remove some of the mass and mass it again. Discussion questions would include whether it was the same material before and after the mass changed. After stations, the next day I would begin with the Kahoot! game and discuss any misconceptions.

POWERPOINT: I chose to do something similar to a "currently". Taboo is a game where a person has to get their team to say the word at the top of the card without using the words underneath it. I have played this game for years but never used Powerpoint to make them before. My clipart was from: http://www.freeclipartnow.com/
My mindmap is full! It really does help me process information to reorganize it another way. I hope that my students will be able to learn using this tool. I used Wisemapping as my tool! You can check out my mindmap on the site! https://app.wisemapping.com/c/maps/
I thought it was a relatively easy site to use. One problem was that if you are not logged in when you are working it will not save. When you do log in finally, all your work will be lost! It was a bummer! Twice the learning going on when I had to re-do! I tried to use Stormboard but never received my verification code. I received a customer service welcome and I let them know that I never received my verification code. They sent me another email but there was no code on it either.

used a Google Docs spreadsheet to create my QR codes. I used the fill down tool to create the codes.

I created a spreadsheet to collect data from a velocity of a toy car lab. The formulas are entered for the students and they have to enter their data and create charts. In the past I have used the school data server and they access the spreadsheet and resave using their name in my science folder then they enter their data. They will have to do the same but only in my Google Drive. From there I can have them to evaluate each other's data and collect from each other's data to do a class chart. Velocity Data Spreadsheet
I also have students watch 6 TED Talks and write a summary of each. I created a spreadsheet in Google docs for them to compile their information and review each other's. TED Talk worksheet
